Position: Summer Food Intern

Summer Food Internship

We are seeking 1-2 outstanding people to join the Kroka community as Food Interns this summer. Food Interns work alongside our Food Manager and Assistant Kitchen Manager  to process and prepare food from our farm to feed staff and students throughout the summer. Food Interns learn the unique food systems in use at Kroka from harvest to preparation to pack-out for remote wilderness expeditions.   • Summer season: June 1 – August 22


Working side-by-side with our Food and Farm Managers, Food Interns will:

  • Harvest food to feed students and staff
  • Process and preserve the harvest for our year-round learning community
  • Work with students during chores and farm blocks as a guide, teacher and role model of kitchen skills and work ethic
  • Prepare and serve food during weekly Sunday potlucks for 100-250 people
  • Prepare and serve weekly Burrito Night dinner to groups of 75-150 students and staff, cooked over the open fire
  •  Maintain a clean, safe, and efficient kitchen and food room

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strength and stamina to work in a physically active role
  • Organizational skills and ability to multi-task
  • Desire to live in an intentional community setting
  • Creative, curious, industrious, resourceful, and fun!

Community Living / Accommodations           

  • Food Interns share simple accommodations in a canvas wall tent set amidst the Kroka staff village on the edge of the forest
  • Life at Kroka is simple and free of technology including cell phones, television, and recorded music
  • Interns have a strong desire to develop personal living habits in harmony with the natural world
  • Outside of responsibilities, Interns will have opportunities to participate in paddling, climbing, hiking, and other adventure and wilderness skills training with Kroka guides
  • Your mentors will be Kroka farmers, year-round staff, and guest teachers

Stipend and benefits

  • In addition to a stipend of $100 per week and invaluable educational experiences interns receive 3 delicious meals per day and comfortable eco-housing on the Kroka campus.
