Driving Directions
Most local families choose to drop their child off by car. P.S. Don’t use GPS maps to find us – it will lead you astray!
From the West: Vermont / Interstate 91 / NH Route 12
From I-91 northbound, take exit 5. The exit ramp bears right to the stop sign, then continue straight on access road 1/2 mile to the end at Route 5.
From I-91 southbound, take exit 5. Make a left at bottom of ramp onto access road, continue on access road 3/4 mile to the end at Route 5.
Then turn right on Rte 5 south, 3/4 mile, to Westminster Station, Irving station on left. Take a left, after the Irving gas station, (Sign reads Vermont 123 EAST) down a small hill and under the stone railroad under pass. Continue across the Connecticut River to New Hampshire. At the stop sign turn LEFT onto NH Rte 12N/NH Rte 123 South. (Note that once you cross into New Hampshire you will follow Rte. 123 SOUTH) Follow Rte. 12 North/123 SOUTH until you pass an Agway store on your right. Slow down because you will be making the next right onto Upper Walpole Road. Follow Upper Walpole Road until you come to a stop sign. Take the right slip lane through the yield sign. You are now back on Rte. 123 SOUTH. From this point Kroka is approximately 11 miles). Follow Rte. 123 SOUTH through Drewsville. After the Drewsville Gereral Store (on your left) you come down a hill. Take a right to stay on Rte. 123 SOUTH. The next town you come to is Alstead. You will come to a stop sign where Rte. 123 South and 12A merge for a few miles. Make a right at this stop sign. Bear left following Rte.123 SOUTH traveling through Alstead village. You will pass a sign for 123A. Disregard this. Stay straight on 123 SOUTH. You will pass Breasure’s Greenhouses. A landmark that you are getting close to Kroka is when you pass Lake Warren on your right. Next you will see the townline Alstead/Marlow on your left and the larger town sign for Marlow on your right. Kroka will be up ahead on your right. You can see one of the yurts and then the farmhouse (directly on the road).
From the North-East
Interstate 89 Exit 5 – US 202W / Rt-9 W toward Henniker/Keene, (Note this is a left exit!)
Follow US-202 / NH-9 for 25.6 miles
After you pass through Hillsboro, start to look for Rte. 123 NORTH on your right. Turn right onto Rte. 123 NORTH, stay on Rte. 123 NORTH through Stoddard and over Pitcher Mountain until you come to NH 10. At this point NH 10 and Rte. 123 NORTH merge. Make a right onto NH 10/123N. Look for the turn of Rte. 123 NORTH (left). Stay on Rte. 123 NORTH for another 3 miles.
After topping a large hill with a white house on your right, the Kroka Base Camp will be shortly on your left.
From the South-East
From Keene take NH Route 10 N and go North through Gilsum. Continue to Marlow (passing Route 123 South on your right) until you reach the center of Marlow (Landmarks are the “Christmas Tree Inn” and the dam on the Ashuelot River).
Turn Left onto Rte. 123 NORTH. Stay on NH 123 N for another 3 miles.
After topping a large hill with a white house on your right, the Kroka base camp will be shortly on your left.

Short day visit or campus tour
Who are you?
Friends, family, potential students, curious passers-by! You want to stop by for a few hours for a tour or just to say hello.
Our Guidelines
Come anytime: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday-Friday, or at 11:30 AM on any summer weekend!
If possible, please let us know in advance of your plans to visit, as we will want to greet you and give you a guided tour. NOTE: You must check-in with the office staff upon your arrival.
Semester Alumni
Who are you?
Graduates of any Kroka Semester Program who would like to come to visit and/or volunteer.
Our Guidelines
Welcome home! You will especially enjoy coming to a Kroka semester reunion, usually held during the first week of January each winter. You will also enjoy coming to semester graduation celebrations, typically in December and June. If you want to come and stay overnight during the summer months, we ask that you write to us at least one month in advance to schedule your visit. NOTE: We ask that temporary volunteers in the summertime commit to a full week of work, arriving on Sunday morning and departing on Saturday at noon.
Young Visitors & Volunteers
Who are you?
Children up to 17 years of age who want to come visit or volunteer at Kroka for a few days or a few weeks…
Our Guidelines
We are sorry but we cannot accommodate young overnight visitors. Instead, please come with your parents to one of our volunteer workdays, or better yet, register for one of our many excellent programs for young people!
Adult volunteers, Interns, or Apprentices
Who are you?
Adults 18+ years of age who want to come to be at Kroka as farm, facilities, or kitchen support…
Our Guidelines
At times there are opportunities for mature hard-working volunteers and apprentices, especially in the kitchen and on the farm. Please contact us at least one month in advance to see if your skills match our current needs.

By Train
Bellows Falls is located just 20 minutes away from Kroka, and is served by a daily stop of Amtrak’s Vermonter train line. Many families and school groups enjoy the relaxing and scenic trip to Kroka via train. Kroka provides shuttle service to and from the Bellows Falls train station by advanced arrangement.
By Bus
Kroka provides shuttle service to and from our local bus stations by advanced arrangement.
By Airplane
We recommend that you book your flights to and from Manchester NH airport (MHT) and contact Kroka to arrange a ride from the airport to Kroka.
By Bicycle
Contact Kroka about the best possible routes. We will help you plan your route, customized to the time of year, your stamina, and the direction from which you are coming!
By Boat
Paddle the Connecticut River to the mouth of the Cold River in Walpole, NH. Depending on the weather and season, you may be able to pole or paddle upstream along the Cold River. When you have gone as far as possible, call Kroka for a ride and we will come and give you and your canoe a ride over the hill and into camp!

Emerson Brook Forest Hospitality
With our children grown, we’re delighted to be able to share our spacious solar powered homestead with others. Writers, artists, musicians, naturalists, social and environmental activists, families, travelers, and people needing a respite from the buzz of life will enjoy the peace and wonder of our forest. Located less than 7 miles from Kroka and 12 miles from the vibrant city of Keene, we have 4-5 guestrooms from which to choose. Our home is wheelchair accessible as are some of the miles of surrounding woodland trails. Two bathrooms offer on-demand heated water for shower or bath. Wireless internet and AC appliance compatible. We also offer options for wholesome lunch and dinner meals and a wood-fired hot tub with advanced notice and at an additional charge. For the well-being of our resident animals (5 turkeys, a donkey and a well-trained chocolate lab), we are unable to host animals other than service dogs. The Bailey’s B & B
We serve as a bed and breakfast for individuals or families coming to Kroka each summer. We have two rooms on the second floor, both with queen size beds and a shared bath. We are at 25 Downing Lane in Marlow, 1.9 miles south of intersection of Rt. 123 & Rt 10, directly across from Greenes Landing Road. Downing Lane is sometimes not found on GPS/IPhone etc: be sure to enter “Greenes Landing Road”; we are directly across Rt 10 at the top of Downing Lane Drive.
Price: $100.00 per night/per room, with full breakfast (using Kroka eggs!).

Pillsbury State Park
Heavily wooded and sprinkled with several ponds and wetlands, Pillsbury State Park is one of the more primitive and lesser known gems of the New Hampshire state park system. Its diversity of habitats makes it home for a great variety of wildlife, including moose and loons. Crossed by a network of hiking and mountain bike trails, the park is an important link in the Monadnock-Sunapee Greenway, a 51-mile hiking trail that connects Mount Monadnock with Mt. Sunapee to the north. Canoeing, warm-water fishing, picniking, hiking and mountain biking are favorite park activities. History buffs enjoy exploring the park’s long-abandoned and overgrown mill sites and cellar holes, remnants of early farm settlement and lumbering of the late 1700s and early 1800s when the area was called Cherry Valley.
