We accept applications over the course of the year on a rolling basis. Both the Vermont and Ecuador Semester Programs are limited to 14 students. Please note that our semester programs are now experiencing full enrollment, with a waiting list, well in advance of the program start. If this is a priority in your life, we suggest that you begin the application process as early as possible.
Essay Questions
All students must complete and submit our application essay questions. If you prefer, you could also submit an original artwork or hand craft.
Academic Assessment
All students must complete and submit this pre-semester assessment. This allows us to gauge your learning style.
Recommendation Form
Please obtain at least two recommendations from a former teacher or mentor of yours. Sometimes this can take some time; you might want to begin this process now instead of later!
Medical & Liability Forms
You and/or your parents will need to complete our medical and liability forms to ensure that you are healthy and ready to go!
You will have a face-to-face interview. Local students will be asked to come to the Kroka campus, and long-distance students will be interviewed by a Kroka alumni who lives in your region.
2. The admissions process:
Once we have received your online registration, we will contact you via telephone or email.
We will talk with you (and perhaps your parents too) about your interests, your physical health, work experience, and academic background, and guide you through the rest of the admissions process and schedule a face-to-face interview and visit to our campus (if possible).

3. Decision Making & Commitment
Once these steps are complete, we will make a final decision about whether or not we can offer you a position within the semester program. With our rolling admissions policy, we admit students in the order that applications are received and completed, without consideration of a family's financial situation. Students who have incomplete applications (for example: sending in recommendation forms, or completing the acceptance form) may lose their place in the program should other applicants complete their applications and be awaiting decisions in the meantime. On rare occasions we reserve the right to give preference to some students over others based upon the needs of the group – for example to ensure the right combination of age, gender, and ability for a successful student community. If a program is full, we do maintain a waiting list, and can offer you an early admission into a subsequent program.

To finalize registration process and reserve your spot within the program, you will need to sign our acceptance form and make a financial tuition deposit.

Kroka Expeditions Semester Programs Financial Information

Program Cost: The cost of the program is divided between tuition and other fees. Our aim is to make the program affordable to all, and we charge less than the majority of other comparable experiential outdoor programs.

Program tuition is on a sliding scale based on family household income. Please see details within each program for it's specific tuition.

You should expect to pay an additional $1,200 - $1,600 in equipment and materials fees (for items that will be taken home at the completion of the program), as well as miscellaneous donations and student account fees. There is also a packing list with required gear that you will need to have borrowed or purchased ahead of time.

Multi-Program Discount: Students who have successfully graduated from a previous Kroka semester can receive a 5% tuition discount on another semester.

Payment Plans: A $2,000 deposit is required upon acceptance into the program (before the financial aid decisions are made). This deposit is refundable (less a $500 fee) up until 60 days prior to the program start. The remaining payments are typically spread out over a period of months, on a schedule that meets your needs, with all tuition and fees due prior to the completion of the program.

Financial Aid: Kroka Expeditions is a financial needs-blind institution, with financial aid decisions made after admissions decisions. We are committed to allowing participation to everyone regardless of income. Financial aid awards typically range from 5% to 30% of your family's sliding-scale tuition amount, depending upon your unique circumstances and the resources we have available at the time.

Public School Funding: Some school districts will pay some or all of our tuition costs. Check with your local school district.

Fundraising Support Package: We have fundraising support package for individual families with ideas on how to accomplish raising part of the tuition. In the past, a number of students raised over half of their tuition through small $25 donations.
