Waldorf-inspired
Wilderness Adventures
In 1996, the same year we founded Kroka Expeditions, we also discovered
Waldorf Education. Lynne found a supportive philosophical environment
at Morningsong, a Waldorf-inspired pre-school and kindergarten,
and decided to alter her public school career to teach there. As
she embarked on an enlightening journey teaching, our son, Miron,
spent the next three years learning there as well. Many of Rudolph
Steiner’s teachings, and the Waldorf ways of educating and
viewing the human being naturally fit the way we parent, as well
as the ways we educate and work with students at Kroka Expeditions.
Suddenly, we were aware that our thoughts on education and our own
personal belief systems were supported by a powerful educational
theory.
Since this discovery, we have noticed that Waldorf students are
among the most successful in all our programs. We believe this is
because of the powerful alignment of expectations and goals that
we share with Waldorf teachers and parents. Waldorf students come
to Kroka prepared; they already have a reverence for nature, a spiritual
connection to all beings, respect for one another, strong character,
and the discipline necessary to produce high quality work. Because
Waldorf students already possess all these qualities, we are able
to guide them on magical and life-changing journeys. After the successes
we have had with Waldorf Schools over the past few years, we are
now focusing on creating specific programs to serve the Waldorf
community. We know that each teacher has their own hopes for his
or her students. We would be honored to help you create the trip
of a lifetime for your students.
All of our programs combine fun-filled adventure with reflective
immersion in the natural world. Kroka’s curriculum is among
the best in the nation -- the result of decades of research and
experience. With Kroka Expeditions, your students will learn how
to trust themselves and each other. They will need to work together
as a supportive team, push their limits and they will accomplish
things they never dreamed possible. Students will bring back lifelong
skills of navigating a fast current, climbing a cliff or using a
map and compass and, most importantly, living harmoniously with
the land. Every Kroka program includes sharing circles, communal
meals and discussions on how to bring newfound skills back to everyday
life.
After looking over the offerings in this brochure feel free to call
any of our references listed on the back of this letter. In addition,
call us and we will be happy to discuss your specific needs, send
you a video of our unique programs or arrange a personal visit to
your school. Whether you are looking for a fall field trip, a winter
wilderness experience, an end-of-year expedition or a weekend outing,
we can design a meaningful, fun, challenging and educational program
specifically for you and your students.
Hope to meet you on the trail!
