2019 Roaring Canyons Semester

Mon, Aug 26, 2019 - Sat, Dec 14, 2019  (111 days)
Young Adults  Ages: 16 - 19

Join us on a 700-kilometer canoe expedition through the heart of American Southwest. From discovering the mysterious past of Anasazi to re-living the adventures of Butch Cassidy and the Wild Bunch this is a one-of-a-kind historical journey for those ready for the longest wilderness expedition of their lives. In our decked white water canoes we will re-trace the steps of John Wesley Powell’s legendary expedition through the canyons of Utah’s Green river to its famed confluence with Colorado. You will become a part of Kroka expedition community, and intentional group of twelve young adults led by Kroka senior paddling instructor Miron Golfman -- living and breathing a life of adventure and discovery in a red rock country of unparalleled rugged beauty. In addition to becoming solid white water paddlers students will gain experience in rock climbing and technical canyoneering. Along the way we will study the fragile hydrological balance of Colorado river basin, witness the struggle between the ecology and the economy and add our voice towards the sustainable future of the region through service work and social activism. Our journey will culminate with descend of the turbulent Cataract canyon concluding at lake Powell.
