Dear Kroka Community,
During the last year, with your generous help, we have
accomplished a truly amazing and hard to imagine task:
We have moved the whole organization to its new home.
The farmhouse is cozy and warm. The smoke is rising from
two dwellings in Kroka village in a clearing below. The
office is buzzing with life in preparation for the return
of students from Ecuador, the beginning of the Vermont
Semester, the school season, and a new summer season.
Our staff are using a new and improved computer network.
The food room, equipment room, workshop and student lodges
are under construction and all close to completion. Through
its physical move Kroka have moved closer to its ideal:
a tri-fold organization encompassing a school, a working
farm and an intentional community.
In its 12 years, Kroka has always been fiscally independent,
relying on tuition as its main source of income. This
approach has allowed us to create a responsible business
culture within the organization. At the same time, this
approach in a non-profit organization has required sacrifice
from teachers and staff. Our goal as co-founders for the
next decade is to continue to grow the organization within
a responsible business model, while at the same time creating
sustainable working conditions for those wonderful people
who dedicate their lives to the future of children and
the world. In order to achieve this goal we need to place
more emphasis on fundraising.
Everyone who supports Kroka knows that their donation
is being used directly to move Kroka closer to its dream.
This is a frugal organization and everyone who works here
strives to use precious resources Kroka has with great
care. The same philosophy we learn while traveling in
the wilderness permeates our life in the modern world:
take only what you need and use it wisely, and with gratitude.
One of the arms of fundraising is your support of the
annual giving campaign. Combined 2007 annual and special
appeals have raised $26,000. Our goal this year will be
to raise $30,000. In addition to continuing to offer financial
aid to summer campers, and improving Kroka Village, this
year’s annual campaign will aim to create much needed
scholarships for the semester students.
We appreciate your donation no matter how small or large
it may be. Your continued support creates positive energy
and encouragement for us to do our work.
Your contribution is fully tax deductible.
Thank you for your amazing support!
