Kroka's
Big Plans
By Misha Golfman,
Founding Director
Last June at our annual Community Meeting, teachers,
apprentices, alumni and friends gathered together to
look into our school’s future. It was a powerful spiritual
moment and a vision for Kroka was put forth as follows:
- Kroka as a school that offers Earth Living Summer
Camps and School Outreach Programs while developing
its High School Program and Community Offerings.
- Kroka as a farm that grows our food and offers biodynamic
food to the local community.
- Kroka as a village, where families share and work
together, children play without pre-arranged play
dates and elderly rest in comfort and dignity.
As we took a practical look into our future, we saw
the need to have a home that can support our vision.
While we talked about our sweet home here at Trollhaugen
Farm we realized that while we love our camp and cherish
our connection with the community here and Johanna and
Bahman’s Family, we have to look beyond Trollhaugen
for our future. One of the catalysts for the idea of
moving is the strong desire for Kroka to be located
adjacent to a Waldorf school. Therefore, we have developed
criteria for our new home and presented it to the Creator.
Some of those criteria are:
- 100 acres or more in close proximity to one of
Northern New England’s Waldorf Schools
- Room for a farm, school and community, with room
to grow
- A magical place with woods, mountains, streams
and springs, close to protected wilderness
I was delegated to do the groundwork. At first, I
was sad to think of leaving our friends at Trollhaugen
Farm and of all the years of work that went into creating
this special place. As time went on I recognized the
need for Kroka to grow and my heart has since filled
with excitement and determination. We have been meeting
with several Waldorf Schools, looking at land, sorting
out the questions of community ownership and figuring
out financing possibilities.
This is the most exciting thing that has ever happened
to us, and Lynne and I are prepared to dedicate ourselves
to the task. We anticipate several years of transition.
We will keep our community informed about our progress
and we will ask you for help when the time comes.
