Farm News
Brita, the horse, has been learning to plow the snow
and pull a sleigh this winter. We are now looking for
horse drawn implements, such as plow, disk, cultivator
and mower. Muffin and Bo-peep (the sheep) are healthy
and ready to give us the first batch of wool, while
chickens supply eggs to the Vermont Semester, our family
and neighbors. Our farm plan involves a much bigger
garden and addition to the chicken flock, so we can
produce all of the eggs for our summer camp.

Our neighbor Nina Meyerhof, has generously given us
the opportunity to use 11 acres of her land (formerly
Hearts Bend Camp). This beautiful land has two fields,
which will provide us with much needed pasture and garden
space. This summer Lynne will be farming and coordinating
the farm program with the rest of the staff. Lynne,
Thomas and Marcea will apprentice this spring at a biodynamic
garden in Pennsylvania with Birgit and Eric Landowne,
parents of Maya (Adventures for small people 2005).
We are moving towards our goal of having a working farm
and our next step will be finding and purchasing farmland
adjacent to camp. |
