| KROKA TEACHERS ARE GOING WILD! |
 |
| Ashirah Knapp stands next
to her handmade tent |
Chris and Ashirah Knapp, lead teachers of Kroka’s Wilderness
Living School have moved into the bush to spend four months
in the wilderness of Northern Maine! Chris and Ashirah have
taken many years to prepare for this journey. Under the guidance
of Grandfather Ray, they have practiced the demanding skills
of living in the winter bush, including hunting with rifle,
bow and arrow, and trapping with traditional traps. Chris and
Ashirah will live on the land and travel by ski and snowshoe.
They made their own winter tent, as well as a lot of traditional
equipment. They also grew and dried much of the food they will
be eating. Apart from the personal and professional development
such a journey will undoubtedly give them, they are also using
their experience as a way of bringing public awareness to the
need to protect the Northern Forest from development and unsustainable
timber cutting. We wish Chris and Ashirah a happy journey and
will be waiting for them to return and share their gifts and
knowledge with all of us come springtime. |
