Job Opening:

Lead Teacher for Semester Program / Outdoor Educator

Kroka Expeditions, a Non Profit Earth Living Skills School, located in Marlow, NH is looking for an experienced outdoor educator to lead and teach in our unique semester programs as well as in the summer and school outreach programs. We are looking for an outstanding teacher with both wilderness and academic teaching background, who is capable of leading extended wilderness journeys by ski, canoe and on foot while teaching a fully integrated curriculum, which encompasses academics, traditional and indigenous handwork, singing, leadership and life skills.

Job Description:

  • To lead one of the semester programs per year.
  • To further develop the curriculum.
  • To guide in summer and school programs.
  • To assist in marketing.
  • Full time, year round or nine-month position. Minimum of three-year commitment.

Qualifications:

  • Teaching skills:
    Experienced educator, who can work with high school and elementary aged students; is a flexible, resourceful generalist but can also take the lead in at least one academic area; should be able to work with students to identify and develop individual learning needs and projects and support students to achieve their goals through facilitating experiential work in the field; should be able to work with diverse learning styles and types. Art and Music skills are a plus. Knowledge of or interest in Waldorf philosophy is necessary.
  • Outdoor Leadership Skills:
    Substantial personal backcountry experience, including remote expeditions.
    Substantial experience in teaching and/or guiding in the wilderness.
    Experience and/or interest in traditional wilderness living skills.
    Strong connection to the Natural World.
  • Counseling Skills:
    Possesses strong group management/development skills.
    Is able to work with individual struggles.
    Understands adolescents.
    Ability to foster positive learning experiences for the group as a whole community.
  • Personal Qualifications:
    Strong ability to work collaboratively with a variety of people.
    Open to learn form past Kroka teachers.
    Ability to make decisions based on common sense.
    Serves as a good role model for adolescents.
    Adventurous and resourceful
    A problem-solver and self-manager
    Mechanically inclined
    Organized and detail oriented.
    Physically fit.
    Hard worker with exceptional work ethics.
    Basic Computer Skills

Starting Date:
Spring, Summer or Fall 2008
