Who we are:
The Kroka staff community is a diverse group of people from all ages and backgrounds who share a commitment to live simply and purposefully while working together to share our skills, knowledge, and values in a transformative way through high-quality outdoor education programs.

What we do:
Kroka offers summer programs, programs for schools, and two semester-length programs. Our summer programs are for 9 to 18 year olds, and range in length from one to three weeks. Our school programs work with elementary through high-school aged classes, and travel to wilderness areas all over New England and the greater United States, as well as in Canada and Ecuador. Kroka's Semester School is home to two extended expeditions, the Ecuador Semester and the Vermont Semester. Semester students range in age from 16-21 and receive school credit for their time at Kroka. All Kroka staff share in teaching responsibilities, as well as the daily chores of caring for our farm and base camp facilities.


STAFF QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Wilderness expedition experience in remote environments

  • Adventure sports expertise, or substantial experience and aspiration to become an expert in one of Kroka's adventure sports, such as white water paddling, rock climbing, caving, mountaineering, back-country skiing, cycling, or another adventure sport with similar set of skills
  • Commitment to personal fitness. Working at Kroka is physically demanding, and requires a high level of fitness. During the course of your work you will be expedted to lift canoes, paddle for long hours, and participate joyously in many other strenuous activities. We are looking for employees who are dedicated to a personal fitness routine.
  • Love of teaching and mentoring children and youth: enjoys working with wide range of ages, documented and referenced previous teaching experience
  • Commitment to sustainability: Personal commitment to simple living, along with experience living in a community of people with simplified personal needs

The following qualifications and skills are a plus:

  • Professional certifications and education: WFR, Wilderness or Red Cross Lifeguard, college degree or equivalent life experience

  • Personal artistic skills: strong singing voice, handwork skills, visual and performing arts experience

  • International/cultural diversity: experience living, working, and traveling in other countries and cultures.

CURRENT POSITIONS OPEN:


Farm Helper

Our farm helper works alongside our farm manager to grow and distribute produce, eggs, meat, and dairy products from our organic farm.Also work with students on farm and in gardens.
Schedule

May 1, 2013 - October 31, 2013 (6 months)

Responsibilities

Assist in all aspects of farm and gardens
Work and help coordinate volunteers and students of all ages

Qualifications Ability to work independently
Good communication skills
Physical strength and stamina
Ability to work hard and long hours
Able to follow instructions
Self-directed task completion
Enjoys working with children and animals
Good organizational skills
Desire to live in community
Creative, industrious, resourceful
Must have drivers license, drive standard transmission
Experience with power tools

Compensation
& Benefits
  • $100 per week
